that armageddon feeling
Recently I’ve been getting that Armageddon feeling again. For the past week, gas stations in Atlanta have been out of gas. Completely out. When a station gets gas, people have to wait in line for about an hour. Fights are breaking out at gas pumps. I honestly don’t believe the world is coming to an end, but with the way gas has been lately, and the financial shitstorm we’re...

updating the pad
In my Evanston apartment, my closet had mirrored doors. I don’t have a floor length mirror in this apartment and it’s driving me a little nuts. I was standing on a chair the other day to use my bathroom mirror. It didn’t really work so well. I was looking on a bunch of websites, and no one has anything reasonably priced. Then I remembered Ikea.
I almost took an impulse trip to...

mjq
Last night we went to a club called mjq. It’s in an old underground parking deck. You enter through a shack, walk down a ramp to the underground bar. It definitely seemed like the kind of place that had a cool underground scene, but because I was there with a group of emory kids, I kind of figure it’s no longer hipster and cool. One of the best parts was watching the break-dance battle...
eating that government cheese
So, while we were watching the debate last night (politics! on a friday night!) I found out that I won my own little election. I’m now a 1L rep for the Student Bar Association. It’s not a huge deal, but I’m pretty excited, considering it’s my first student government-type position ever.

The Duchess
My mom got advanced screening passes to see The Duchess tonight, so I’m going with her. That also means we’re trading cars, and I get MiniKat back. I watched the previews for the movie and it looks like the typical Kiera Knightley period drama. It also looks stressful. I am a weirdo, in that I get stressed for characters in movies. I want things to go well for the characters, and when...
W, Oliver Stone’s movie about the Bush presidency, actually looks pretty interesting.

josh grobin just blew my mind
Josh Grobin just did the most cracked out medley of television theme songs. I’ll try to find a clip of it to post tomorrow.
emmys!
Emmy Award on tv now. Oprah onscreen.
Ok, I tried doing predictions, but there’s waaaay too many categories.
student government
And I’m running for student government. I find this to be particularly hilarious given the fact that I never did it in high school or college. In high school, student government was only in charge of making t-shirts and picking out a prom theme. In college, it was full of politicos. Here, I see actual benefits coming from the Student Bar Association.
rando tip of the day
When high-fiving, look at the other person’s elbow. It improves accuracy. Thanks to Lisa/Wired magazine for this one. So, next time you see me, let’s practice with a bodacious 90s high five!

food101
Christine and I had brunch at Food101. We sat on the patio, and it was simply perfect. They have a fantastic brunch menu with tons of organic and locally grown/raised choices. Christine had the world’s most scrumptious mimosa and I stuck with coffee. I decided on the sliced local tomatoes with goat cheese.
I’ve been on a tomato binge recently. This was a fresh and interestingly...

i love cover bands
I just downloaded two albums (Are a Drag and Have a Ball) by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. They have been a favorite of mine for a while. I think Mike Yin got me started on them in high school. Basically they do fun punk-rockish covers of either classic rock songs or broadway favorites. There’s nothing not to love. This is exactly the kind of band I would want to play at my wedding. I...

also,
My friends and family have become accustomed to my occasional food blogging and indulge me now. They offer to let me photograph their food with my iPhone, or even take pics for me. I love you all for letting me pretend to be a food critic.
Honestly, though, I love food and I love trying new restaurants. I’m not trying to be pretentious by posting my reviews; I just honestly love trying new...

oh hey, it's 11:30 at night
I think I’ll make a Caprese salad and frame some posters so there’s actually art on my walls. Well, it’s not on my walls yet because I don’t hate my neighbors enough to hang pictures at the odd hours I keep.

From the one or two episodes I’ve seen of Entourage, I’d say Paul Scheer nailed it.

holeman & finch
Restaurant Eugene is probably my favorite Atlanta restaurant. I went there for the first time last summer with Eric for my birthday. I have been back once since, and it was just as fabulous. The chef, Linton Hopkins, specializes in seasonal, organic, gourmet southern fare. When I heard that Hopkins was opening a gastropub (Holeman &Finch), I was intrigued. When Atlanta magazine rated it the...

spice market
This was my second Midtown Restaurant Week pick. It’s in the W Hotel, and the weekend we were there was the weekend of DragonCon and Black Gay Pride, so the hotel was slammed. It’s definitely got a hip vibe, especially with Whiskey Park upstairs. The waitstaff at Spice Market were forced to wear the most heinous outfits. Our waiter could have won awards for how klutzy he was. He kept...

ecco
My mom had been raving about Ecco for a while now, so when they were a part of Midtown restaurant week, I figured we should give it a go.
The restaurant has a nice Mediterranean vibe. They pride themselves on their excellent wine list, which I enjoyed. The food at Ecco was clean and simple Euro fare. I had a three course menu with a salad, a pizza, and a dessert.
Overall, I was impressed by...

chicago is flooding
Apparently the hurricane rains are flooding Chicago. Emmy’s flight was canceled, so she’s staying an extra night with me. Our sorority house is definitely flooded as well, causing her (the President) endless headaches. We’re heading out to the pool, then having people over for dinner (taco braid and chips/guac) and the Ohio State-USC game. I’m putting a Michigan fan and an...

Road Rage
I left a little later than usual this morning and was in a hurry this morning, so consequently everyone on the road decided to drive with their heads up their asses. The only places I really get stuck in the mornings are at two stop lights where there’s one lane going straight and one turn lane. At both lights the traffic will back up for about a mile. At both lights this morning, volvos...

just downloaded new iTunes
It completely rocks. The biggest new feature is Genius. Clicking on any song shows you songs you’re missing, popular songs by that artist, and similar artists. Then, once you’ve selected a song, you can push a button and iTunes creates a playlist for you based on your song and including similar songs from your iTunes library. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s a fun toy. Also,...

and we skipped tuesday.
Tonight was a total success. We’ve started an informal dinner club, where one person hosts and cooks for 5 other people. The only thing you have to bring is your agreement to cook one night for everyone else. I wanted to go all out on my first night, so I made:
Baked Brie appetizer with pecans and Carr’s Table Water Crackers (fave family recipe)
Summer Salad with Spinach,...
