I finally tried Varasano’s a few weeks ago. It was probably the most buzzed about restaurant opening of the summer in Atlanta. Jeff Varasano’s pizza recipe had been written about in the NYT and he was famous for throwing awesome pizza parties in his house.
Unfortunately, I think it got overhyped for me. I went on a Sunday night, and the restaurant was still jumping. I had a very good salad with blue cheese and candied nuts, and then my dinner companion and I split their “best” pizza. We added sausage to spice things up a bit.
While I can say that the ingredients were awesome, and the flavor was good- it just didn’t blow my mind. I think Fellini’s offers just as good of a product. Also- the beer was overpriced and I thought the place felt cold. It really lacked atmosphere.
