Cliche Pun on Book Title

eat. drink. be merry.

Just watched the pilot of Cashmere Mafia online.  It pretty much follows everything I’ve read about it online.  The clothes are fabulous.  Everything else is a parody of “fast-paced high-power new york life”.  With name-dropping.  It’s obvious that it’s a SATC rip off.  But they don’t even do it well.  I don’t actually like any of the characters or care about any of them.  There were a few parts that rang true, as a part of a generation of women taught to reach for the stars, growing up my parents told me I can do whatever I want with my life.  I do want to have a fabulous career, but I also want children and a family.  One of the characters has a husband who’s having an affair.  She admits to the others that this isn’t the first time, and that she knows he cheats.  When they are indignant, she tells them not to judge her, that it’s not easy being married to a successful woman, and this is a small sacrifice she makes in order to have a family.

Do we really have to make sacrifices like that?

Another character gets promoted over her fiance.  (I would say you should never date someone from your workplace, but hey…) When she gets the promotion, he breaks off the engagement because he wants a traditional wife.

Most of my relationships have ended with me breaking up with the guy. I am not a woman who is easily defeated or dominated.  I tend to be stubborn, and as a former high school debater, I can argue like nobody’s business.

Am I going to have to face these decisions?

So I guess even though I think the show is crap, it has made me think a little bit.

Mostly it just makes me want to watch SATC.
