Cliche Pun on Book Title

eat. drink. be merry.

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a total foodie.  I had been hearing about a new restaurant opening in Evanston from the people who own Campagnola.  When Eric said he wanted to go to dinner last night, I thought it would be just the place.

Union Pizzeria, 1245 Chicago Ave, was a fantastic find.  It was pretty crowded, Friday night of opening week, so not entirely unexpected.  The first think I noticed was the space is gorgeous.  It’s an old Peugeot showroom and it has that neat urban loft look.  The walls are exposed brick and the ceiling is the original wood rafters, and it is simply stunning.  They also use those cool antique light bulbs that make the whole place look like it’s lit by candlelight.

I knew Eric would like it because the beer selection is off the chain.  They have tons of Belgians, all reasonably priced.  Their wine list boasts almost entirely internationals, and they advertise it as 50 wines under $50 dollars.

The food didn’t disappoint either.  I started with the cheese plate, an aged cow’s milk and a smoked goat cheese, served with dried fruit and nuts.  Eric had a small Caesar salad.  We each got a pizza, mine was prosciutto and arugula with bechamel sauce, Eric had the lamb sausage.

All in all, a new favorite of mine in Evanston.  Eric and I decided it makes a great first date restaurant.  Interesting and romantic enough to make a good first impression, but reasonably priced so neither person feels awkward.

My rating: A-

ps- I didn’t take any pictures, sadly I forgot, but I found some online to post.
