Cliche Pun on Book Title

eat. drink. be merry.

I recently went back to Woodfire Grill (Chef Kevin from this past season of Top Chef) for a friend’s birthday party. We were also celebrating being halfway done with law school, so we decided to go all-out and do the five-course chef’s tasting menu. I took a bunch of pictures with my phone, but the room was dimly lit and they came out a bit grainy.

One thing I love about Woodfire is the space. It’s a small restaurant, but they have these great private rooms for big parties. The location is slightly weird (on Cheshire Bridge Rd, right by a bunch of strip clubs), but inside, the restaurant has a nice, warm vibe.

I picked the wines for our table, with the help of the sommelier, and we ended up with two great selections, including a red from Chateau Pesquie that I thought was particularly divine.

The food was beautiful. It was very rich, fresh, and elegant. This is also the cheapest 5-course tasting menu I’ve ever had. Some of my favorite dishes were the tempura mushrooms with Spanish cheese under them and the venison over grits.

My only complaint about the experience was our waiter (incidentally, the same one I had the first time I visited). He was just too pushy, and treated us like we didn’t know what we were doing, or didn’t belong in the restaurant. I consider myself a fairly experienced diner, and I don’t like being talked down to.
