Cliche Pun on Book Title

eat. drink. be merry.

On Friday night Eric, Julie, Corrie and I went to the Prairie Grass Cafe in Northbrook, IL.  I had heard about it through various food blogs, and it always got good reviews.  We were in the area, so I decided it would be fun to pop in.

We started with cocktails.  Points off for Eric’s martini coming with the olives just floating at the bottom.  For dinner Corrie and I did a series of appetizers, Julie had a salad and moussaka and Eric did Baked Feta then a steak.

The crabcake was first and it was definitely my favorite dish of the night.  It was a jumbo shredded crab cake served with avocado slices and grapefruit with a citrus beurre sauce.

Next I had the homemade pate with apples and balsamic vinegar.  A glass of Louis Latour chardonnay accompanied the pate.

We shared two desserts: the previously pictured chocolate “muk muk” cake, which had a warm chocolate center, and a strawberry crepe.  The “muk muk” was better.

The decor was classic midwestern prairie-style, just what you’d expect from the name.  Because it’s in the suburbs, the crowd was mainly families and older couples.  By the time we left at nine, the restaurant was half-empty.

Our service was lackluster.  We weren’t in a hurry, but there was a noticeable delay.

Overall, good for the suburbs, it would die downtown.
