So far the decision is between the MINI Cooper and the Acura TSX.
MINI: I think it’s cute now, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about it in 5 years. It’s cheap and really fuel efficient. There’s a used one I like, but to get a new one would be about a 6-8 week wait because they’re sold out everywhere. I’d want it in chili red with a white roof.
Acura: It’s a more traditional car. There’s a reasonably priced tricked out used one in silver, then a bunch of other used ones less tricked out in white, red and black. I like the way it rides, and it comes with a lot more features standard. It’s also more traditional.
I’m trying to think not only for the next three years of law school, but for my first few years as a lawyer. Also, like pulling up at fancy restaurants. The MINI is a BMW, but I think it looks kind of gimmicky. I’m not sure if I think it’s a grown-up car or not. Also, I don’t know if it seems “luxurious” or not.
I’m talking to my mom while writing this, and without ever testing it, my dream car is a Mercedes SLK convertible. But even used with 30k miles, they run about 33,000. That’s a car I’d buy in 5 years with my fatty lawyer cash. My mom agrees that after 5 years I could trade in an Acura or MINI and it would have been a good car.
So, do I go traditional, and in my opinion boring with the Acura, which means more luxury and features, but used, or do I pick the MINI which would be fun for a few years, but ultimately is kind of a “for-fun” car in my mind?
Sorry if this seems braggy, but I’m just trying to think out loud and sort out my thoughts.
