I don’t feel like doing work, but to motivate myself, I’m using candy. Yes, I am four years old. When I was in Germany I bought a few of my favorite hard to find candy bars. You’ve probably seen Ritter Sport bars in Whole Foods or other gourmet stores, but they don’t usually have all of the flavors. They’re German, and the best flavor is unquestionably Knusperflakes. In America we would call that chocolate covered corn flakes. My study abroad friend Meg is credited with showing me the light re: this matter.
The name, Ritter Sport, reminds me of Germany especially because they have strict rules about what is athletic exercise and what is not. If something is pertaining to exercise, it is “for sport”, otherwise, “not for sport”. I love that sport is singular instead of our American “sports”. My mom and I started using the phrase instead of saying “just for fun”, so we would perhaps say, “I’m going to go look around on the sundeck…for sport”, but saying “for sport” in a funny German-ish voice. This probably isn’t translating well at all, but I wanted to remember it, and damn it, this is my blog.
Also I have no idea why these candy bars are apparently “for sport”.
