Hi, My name is Katherine, and I like reading books/watching tv shows/watching movies about vampires.
A qualifier first, I think vampires/fantasy/sci-fi all get a bad rap as far as genres go. For some reason it’s considered un-cool to be interested in these things. I’ve already explained my feelings on sci-fi literature in an earlier post. I think it’s so strange that we’re taught to be creative and use our imagination as children, but as soon as we grow up, we must limit ourselves to what is physically possible. I am strictly rational and have no belief in the supernatural. I take that so far as to include God in the “supernatural” category. But when it comes to entertainment, I like the abnormal stuff.
I do not believe in vampires/dragons/magic. I do not have the desire to dress up like a vampire/wizard and I would never go to Comic-con or any other sci-fi conference. I don’t have a problem with people that choose to make sci-fi/fantasy a lifestyle, but for me, it’s just entertainment.
So, the reason for this post is that I’ve recently been watching True Blood, watching Buffy re-runs on hulu, and reading the Twilight series. I saw Twilight, the movie, last night in theaters. I had never watched Buffy before, so that’s a new one on me.
True Blood has some cheesy acting, but so far the show is still interesting to me. The concept is a twist on the classic vampire story. The premise is that the creation of synthetic blood has allowed vampires to come out in the open and exist alongside humans. At times this is a thinly veiled allusion to homosexuality in modern culture.
Anyway, separate posts to come on Twilight the books and Twilight the movie.
