Flip is Richard Blais’s (Top Chef) new restaurant in Atlanta. The latest restaurant trend seems to be doing a high-end burger joint. Atlanta is definitely in on the trend, as there was an hour-long wait for a table at 3:30 on a Saturday. Luckily Eric and I managed to snag bar seats in about 5 minutes (pro-tip: bar is first come first serve in most restaurants. Skip the line.)
First, let’s talk decor. It’s done by the same guy who did Holeman & Finch and a few other places around town. It’s mod and retro all at the same time. White, red and silver are the predominant colors. I did love the way they classed-up the tvs at the bar:

Milkshakes:

These definitely get an A+ in my book. I hate it when you get a milkshake and you have to wait for it to melt before you can suck it up through the straw. These were the perfect consistency- instantly drinkable. The one on the left is nutella with bruleed marshmallows on top. It actually arrives on fire. The righthand one is Krispy Kreme. They actually blend up Krispy Kreme donuts in the milkshake, and it tastes divine. If I could only have one, it’d be the nutella.

I had the butcher cut burger with blue cheese, carmelized onions and red wine jam. The flavors were awesome, and it really was a gourmet burger. I like a substantial bun with my burger and this one delivered. The sweet potato tots (on the side) were ok, but nothing to rave about. I like the dipping sauce for them, though.
I’d recommend Flip, but wait a few months. It’s still hyped up right now, meaning it’s jam packed. The staff is obviously stressed out and the place isn’t huge- so it feels a little crowded. That made the ambiance a little edgy.
