Cliche Pun on Book Title

eat. drink. be merry.

Cliff Bostock in his review of Spoon in Creative Loafing.

I’m not sure if I agree or not. I think some of my favorite servers I’ve ever had have been women. To me, a great server is friendly, but doesn’t hover. A great server knows the balance between being helpful and being annoying.

Times a server should come to your table:

-within a minute of you sitting down, take water order and any other drink orders

-bring water within 1-2 minutes and offer to take any other drink or app orders

-check back within 5 minutes to take final drink and/or food orders.

-bring app within 10 minutes

-clear plates almost as soon as they’re empty, always re-fill glasses when they get below half full.

-bring entree, and check back after 2 bites/2 minutes (This is an old OK Cafe Rule).

-clear plates and offer dessert, if they don’t want dessert, have the check ready to lay down.

That’s about 5-7 times you should see your server, not accounting for bus boys doing some of this work (clearing plates, refilling drinks).

Do y’all agree or disagree? Any memorable servers?

There’s nothing like being waited on by marriage material.
